At San Juan Coffee Roasting Company, roasting isn’t just a step in the process — it’s the heartbeat of everything we do. Each morning, the rich, nutty aroma of freshly roasted beans drifts from our Friday Harbor shop, a sign that another small batch is being carefully brought to life. We roast daily to ensure that every bag of coffee we send out is just 24–48 hours out of the roaster, capturing its peak freshness and flavor.
Small-batch roasting gives us a level of control that’s impossible to achieve with industrial-scale operations. We can adjust roast levels based on the specific characteristics of each origin, whether it’s the delicate brightness of a Costa Rica Tarrazu or the earthy boldness of Sumatra Mandheling. Each roast is an opportunity to highlight what makes a coffee unique — not to cover it up, but to bring it forward.
You may have noticed the difference in our varietal coffees and blends, where every origin tells its own story. From the zesty sparkle of our “La Minita” to the comforting depth of our Premium Estate Blend, we take pride in showing off the bean’s natural personality through thoughtful roasting.
We believe great coffee should taste like where it came from — the soil, the elevation, the care taken at harvest. That’s why our small-batch approach matters. Next time you brew a cup of San Juan coffee, you’re not just drinking coffee. You’re tasting craftsmanship, origin, and freshness — all roasted with intention.
